Once you go into Google Classroom, you will see assignments posted. Please don't do anything until we meet. I often put assignments on there ahead of time as a way of staying organized. New School, New Year...New Everything!
Posted by Ann Little on 7/29/2020Welcome to the 2021/2022 school year! I am so excited to meet all of you. This year we will cover numerous genres in literature as well as many forms of writing. Our main focus in literature this year is to develop an understanding and appreciation of literature, to see the relevance of literature to real life, to develop skills in analyzing and supporting interpretations and to continue developing your writing skills.
1st Semester: We will focus on a short story unit during first quarter, which will be useful in reviewing literature devices as well as foster a deeper understanding of them. Toward the end of first quarter, students will engage in book club groups. Our district was very generous, and we have numerous selections to choose from. This is an exciting year.
During second quarter, we will read a classroom novel as a whole group. Writing 1st semester includes creative writing, narrative writing, and informational writing.
HOMEWORK: Homework is listed daily on Google Calendar as well as Google Classroom. It is also written on the white board in my room each day. Please refer to the handbook for the grading scale and late work policy.
Please note this class is an HONORS class. You will usually have homework daily as well as ongoing projects and assignments. The honors program is optional! I am so happy to have you here, and I will help you in any way I can; however, this class is rigorous at times and serves as a high school prep class. We need to work together, which means I need my students to feel free to ask for help! Please talk to me about any difficulties you may experience and try to be your own advocate. This is an essential function in high school! I truly appreciate partnerships with parents and look forward to meeting all of you as well. Students, if you work hard and try not to procrastinate, this class will be a lot easier, and you will get so much more out of it.
Let's have a great year!!
